Thinking of You for Color Hues

Hello, friends!  Today brings a new challenge at Color Hues and this time the amazing Jules has chosen Mustard and Olive, a great fall combination.

I decided to use a set that's been waiting to be inked up for a while - Brighter Days Gerbera Daisy from Picket Fence.  I know Gerbera daisies come in a plethora of colors so I decided why not mustard yellow?

This is a lovely, large floral image and so easy to color.  Of course, I used my Copic markers, making sure my yellows were more of a golden color.  I know mustard can be a bright yellow, I guess I was thinking Dijon? ;-)  Anyway, with the coloring complete it and the sentiment (also from the same set) where cut out with coordinating dies.

I really fiddled around to get a background that I liked.  At first the double plaid die was cut from brown cardstock and layered on white, but I didn't like that and finally settled on the white over kraft.  It's very subtle, but before the kraft panel was layered with the cover die, I stamped a text background stamp with white pigment ink, then used a blending tool to ink around the edges.  It adds just a little interest and a nice softness to the kraft.

With everything adhered to the card base, I finished things off with some yellow gems and used a white gel pen for the stamen (anthers?).

I do hope you'll join us and share what you were inspired to make with these two colors!  The challenge remains open until 9am on Tuesday October 29th.  And I encourage you to visit the challenge blog, where fabulous inspiration from my very talented teammates awaits you.

Thanks for visiting and take care!

Thinking of You for Color Hues

Hello friends!  We're in mid-October, which calls for a new challenge over at Color Hues!  The fabulous Hannelie has chosen a wonderful fall-ish combination of Yellow and Kraft.

I'm also playing along with the monthly Four Seasons Challenge, where October is Anything Goes Fall (and look at that fab mood board, I'm sure I'm going to be playing along again this month!).

Many options with the Color Hues combo, but I decided to use a new floral stamp set which I think worked well with yellow and kraft (plus a little gold and white ;-)).

I started by stamping the Rose Reverie image (a Simon Says Stamp/Altenew collab stamp and die set from Stamptember) on a white panel then coloring with Copic markers.  I sampled a couple of brown marker combos before finding a blending group that was closest to kraft.  The image was then die cut with the coordinating die.

Next I cut a panel of white with the Tim Holtz Simple Plaid cover die, which was then layered on a panel of kraft, which was then adhered to a white card base.  Before adhering the floral image, both the flowers and background were splattered with metallic gold and white paint.  While that dried, the sentiment was gold heat embossed then die cut with matching die.  I also cut out two more layers each of the floral image and the sentiment.  When the splatter was dried, the images were layered up, then adhered to the background panel.  I then took a small paintbrush and added metallic gold to the little anthers (tops of the stamen) in the middle of the flowers and that finished things off.

I love this color combo and I hope you do too!  Take a moment to visit the challenge blog and see what my amazingly talented teammates created for your inspiration and hopefully you will join us - the challenge remains open until 9 am EDT 10/28.

Thanks for visiting - take care!

Happy Thanksgiving for the Tic Tac Toe Challenge

Hello friends!  It's time for a new Tic Tac Toe Challenge and this week the lovely Claire has given us this wonderful board for our inspiration!

I went down the left row for my card - thankful, brown, die cuts.

I started with the autumn floral that came out during Simon Say Stamp's Stamptember, where Simon releases a new collaboration stamp set nearly every day and when they sell out, they're gone. Fortunately for my pocketbook, I only bought a couple, this sweet stamp set being one from Studio Katia.  I stamped both the sentiment and main image, then colored the florals and pumpkin with alcohol markers.  To get more contrast in the yellow flowers, I used three polychromos colored pencils to deepen the shaded areas, although unfortunately the photos does not fully capture that. :-(  Everything was then die cut with coordinating dies.

The Scallop cover die provided some wonderful white texture over an off-white card base, then a strip of brown textured cardstock was added to ground the image.  The pumpkin floral was added to the front with thin foam squares, then I die cut the sentiment twice more, cutting off the part that overlapped the pumpkin and adhered it to the brown strip, and that finished things off.

Thanks for visiting, I appreciate it.  The link above will take you over to the challenge where you can take a look at the cards by the other DT members and hopefully be inspired to join us this week!

Take care!

Sending Hugs

Hello and welcome!  Today's card is one that I made for the current Color Hues challenge, where the lovely Cindy has chosen the colors orange and green.

While I was tempted to make a Halloween card because these colors are so perfect for it, but instead used a stamp set that I purchased a short time ago and was eager to get it inky.

I think peonies are my favorite flowers (they sure are in our garden), so I was irresistibly drawn to the Gracious Peonies from Altenew.  I stamped the huge floral on white cardstock then colored in the challenge colors with Copic markers.  When that was complete, the image was die cut.

Next a panel of white cardstock was embossed with a 3D embossing folder then adhered to a white card base.  The peony image was glued directly to the embossed panel, then I lightly splattered it was gold metallic paint.  While that dried, the large sentiment was die cut from brushed gold paper and black cardstock, and the sub-sentiment gold heat embossed on black, then die cut.  After they were adhered to the card, I was done.  Note that the sub-sentiment did not photograph well, especially in the photo below, but in real life it looks fine.  There's something about photographing metallics or shiny things...

Thanks for stopping by, I appreciate it.  I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Take care!

Stef

Countless Beautiful Reasons for the Tic Tac Toe Challenge

Hello friends!  It's time for a new Tic Tac Toe Challenge and this week Jeanne has created a wonderful board with plenty of inspiring combinations.

I really thought I was going to make a Halloween card for my DT card, but then I was drawn to a beautiful Stamptember stamp and die set I managed to snag before it sold out.  I was also so inspired by the amazing fall colors that Nichol Spohr used here for her DT sample, that I CASEd her card, using mostly the same colors but a different card layout.

I started by stamping with Copic friendly brown ink, coloring the images then restamping them with brown pigment ink for a nice dark outline.  I left the stamp in the Misti after the first stamping, then slipped the colored panel back in there for the 2nd stamping before die cutting.  The sentiment was also stamped with the brown pigment ink and die cut.

Next I used a lattice embossing folder on a panel of white, then gently ink blended with a light blue ink on the debossed side, so the lattice indentations remained white.  I trimmed it down then added a horizontal strip of Matte Gold cardstock.  It sure doesn't look very metallic in the photos, but I assure you it is metallic cardstock!  The ink panel was added directly to the 5" x 7" natural white (looks ivory) card base, then the colored images and the sentiment were added with foam tape.  The last step was to use my gold gel pen to color the berries in the flower center.

Thanks for visiting, I always appreciate it!  Be sure to use the link above to check out the wonderful cards by the other DT members and hopefully be inspired to join us this week!  Also take a minute to pop over to Nichol Spohr's blog, she is such a super talented artist!

Take care!

Hello Friend for The Flower Challenge

Hello friends!  It's the 15th of the month and time for our reminder cards for The Flower Challenge.  This month we've had lots of beautiful sparkle in our gallery and I hope you're inspired to join us - you have until the 25th of September to play along.

For my card, I kept things relatively simple, adding sparkle with a pretty die cut sentiment but also some sparkle on the flower as well.

We've been enjoying some beautiful sunflowers from our yard, so I was inspired to use this large image from Colorado Craft Company.  It came out last spring in support of Ukraine, but I hadn't had a chance to use it until now.  It's so large my card ended up being 4.5" x 6.25", which fits perfectly in an A6 envelope.  Anyway, I began by stamping and coloring the flower with Copic markers then die cut it with the coordinating die.

The large friend word was die cut twice from white and once from non-shedding white glitter paper that I colored with one of my brown Copic marker to get a better color match.  I hadn't tried that before but saw other card makers successfully do it and I was pleased that it did not harm the nib of my marker.  The layers were adhered together and then to the shadow die cut from Neenah Natural White.  I also use Natural White for the card base, then added a panel of white woodgrain paper.  The sunflower was adhered directly to the panel, then the sentiments added, the sub-sentiment popped up with foam tape.  Lastly, I used my aqua shimmer pen and covered the entire flower, although the photo really only picks up the sparkle in the middle.  With all that sparkle, I didn't think anything further needed to be added to the card.

Please be sure to use the link above to see all the beautiful reminder cards from the other Design Team members and hopefully join us this month.

Thanks for visiting!  Take care!

Just A Note for Sunday Stamps

Hello friends!  It's time for a new challenge at Sunday Stamps and this time we have a beautiful color combination to spark your creativity.

I'm also joining the current dies and/or stencils challenge at Addicted to Stamps and More.

I love Autumn and these colors really lend themselves to Fall leaves, pumpkins or toadstools, but I decided to use them instead with some sweet flower dies.

This was a really fun and easy card to make.  I began by die cutting the scallop panel, masking off the scallop border, then ink blending with three yellows, primarily in the lower left, leaving the upper right white.  Then, when I removed the masked scallops, I had a nice white border all the way around the panel.  Next, all the flowers and centers were die cut then colored with Copic markers to capture the peachy-orange and dark orange colors.  When that was done, I used white acrylic paint to splatter both the panel and the flowers.

When the paint dried, I did a trial run on the placement of the flowers to determine where the sentiment would fit.  It was stamped in brown pigment ink, then the flowers were adhered to the panel just at their centers so I could give the petals a little lift for some dimension without using foam tape.  The scallop panel was layered on two additional die cut panels for more dimension, then adhered to the brown card base, and I was done.

Thanks for visiting, I appreciate it.  The other DT members have some fabulous cards for even more inspiration, so be sure to use the link above to check them out and hopefully be inspired to join us!

Take care!

Fall Sunflowers

Hello and welcome!  I have a card to share with you that I made for the challenges at Double D, where the theme is sunflowers, and The Paper Players, where the lovely Ann has given us a fun Tic Tac Toe board.  I'm joining the Double D challenge at the last minute and took a look at the new PP challenge and saw that my card worked for it as well (die cut, leaves/pumpkins, embellishments).

I've had this amazing slimline stamp with sunflowers for a while and this was the perfect opportunity to ink it up.

The image was stamped in brown amalgam ink which works with both watercolor and Copic markers, the later of which I used to color the image.  There's so much detail that it actually took me a couple of afternoons to color and complete the card.  After everything was colored, a rectangle die was used to cut down the panel, then I used gold metallic ink to add splatter and a gold edge.

The hello sentiment was die cut twice from white cardstock and once from gold matte then layered together and added to the vellum shadow.  The vellum shadow was die cut with double sided adhesive on the back so it could be added to the card without any adhesive showing through.  It works so slick!  The colored panel was matted on a kraft layer, then added to the ivory card base with thin foam tape.  The last touch was to adhere a few gold baubles for a bit of bling.

Thanks for taking time to stop by!  Take care!

Stef

Happy Fall for the Tic Tac Toe Challenge

Hello friends and welcome back!  It's time for a new Tic Tac Toe Challenge and this week the lovely Claire has brought us this terrific board.

For my card, I went down the left side column - sunflower, embellishment, yellow.

I'm also joining the current Addicted to Stamps Challenge, where the theme is make your mark.

I love sunflowers and all the colors of fall, so this card makes me very happy!  Before I started coloring the large sunflower and leaf image, I went through my patterned papers and found this fun plaid with just the perfect colors.  I stamped the main image and also stamped two additional sunflowers with the intent of popping them up with foam tape.  I colored everything with Copic markers, and I'm not going to lie, it took quite a while.  But what fun and I love the results.  Rather than leave the background and edges white, I decided to color it with a light blue-green marker, then I used the coordinating die to cut it out.  I ended up fussy cutting the two extra sunflowers so they would fit seamlessly on top.

The stamp set has a very large thanks stamp and matching die but I didn't want to use it and cover up all the images, so I went searching through my stamp sets for just the right sentiment.  It was stamped in brown pigment ink then die cut.  Due to the size of the image, I made this a mini slimline card measuring 6.25"x 3.25". I used a mini slimline stitched rectangle die to cut the patterned paper and adhered it directly to the card base.

To give dimension to the base image, I die cut it three times from inexpensive heavy weight white card stock, adhered all the layers together then glued it to the card front.  The two sunflowers were added using thin foam squares, as was the sentiment.  A few antique gold sequins and some gold gel pen dots in the flower centers finished things off.

Thanks for taking time to visit, I really appreciate it!  Be sure to use the link above to check out the fabulous cards by the other DT members and hopefully play along with us this week!
