A Merry Little Christmas for The Paper Players

Hello friends and welcome back!  It's time for a new challenge at The Paper Players!  This week the lovely Joanne is hosting our monthly sketch challenge.  Lots of layers to spark your creativity!

I'm also joining Color Hues, where the color combo is one of my favs and worked perfectly for my card!  This is a terrific new challenge created by Nancy Leppek (be sure to check it out!).

Finally, I'm sharing my card at the current Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge where the theme this week is Animal Antics.

Initially I wasn't sure what I was going to create, as my cards are generally don't have a number of layers.  But I decided to dive in and make a fun Christmas card using a Slimline shaped card.

To begin the Slimline Scallop Frame was die cut from Bristol paper after being ink blended with Peacock Feathers Distress Ink.  The die also cuts out the center rectangle panel so you can use the scallop frame alone, however I used them both here.  The center panel was also ink blended with Chipped Sapphire DI at the top to create a bit of ombre and then covered with "snow" using a stencil and shimmer paste.  Three more scallop frames were cut from white card for added dimension, adhered together along with the ink blended layer, then added to the navy slimline card base (final size 3.5" x 8.5").

When the shimmer paste dried, the rick rack border die cut from white glimmer paper was added.  I was bummed because I adhered it up too high on the panel but it was glued down permanently and I was too far along to feel like starting over, so I decided to roll with it!  Good thing my critters are small LOL!  The navy banner was sprayed with shimmer spray and when dry, added to the card with the sentiment layered on top.  The hedgehog, mouse and penguin were all colored with Copic markers, die cut and added to the card with foam tape.  A white gel pen was used to add a few highlights, a shimmer pen added sparkle to the package, the candy cane and the hedgie's ear muffs, and a bit of White Blizzard glitter drops added to the white band and puff on the penguin's hat.  And that, my friends, finishes off my card!

Thanks so much for visiting, it's always appreciated!  I hope you are continuing to stay safe and healthy and have a wonderful week ahead!

Woodland Christmas for the SCS Color Challenge

Hello friends and welcome back!  It's time for a new Color Challenge at Splitcoaststampers!  Karen is hosting this week and she has chosen Cherry Cobbler, Pretty Peacock and Bumblebee, with the dessert option of Christmas in July.

For my card I used one of my favorite Christmas stamp sets with cute critters.  The images and sentiment were all stamped on white card, colored with Copic markers then die cut with coordinating dies.

Next I worked on the background.  A panel of Bristol was ink blended with a couple of dark blue Distress Oxide inks, then splattered with water and white gouache (the critters were splattered with a bit of gouache too).  While that dried I hand cut snow drifts from another piece of white card.

After adding the snow drifts to the Bristol panel, the birch tree trunks were adhered, trimmed down, then the panel added to the card base.  The critters and sentiment were all added with foam tape, then a glitter pen was used on all the berries and the little birdie's hat pompom.  The final step was to use a white gel pen to add more "snowflakes" in the sky and to darken some of those on the animals and tree that seemed to dry back considerably.

Thanks for visiting, I appreciate it so much!  Be sure to use the link to SCS above to check out the challenge and hopefully play along this week!
