Winter Wonderland for The Paper Players

Hello friends and welcome back!  It's time for a new challenge at The Paper Players.  This is theme week and the lovely Joanne is hosting.

Perfect for those of us still racing to complete our Christmas cards!  For my card, I used another of my favorite stamps, this time from Power Poppy.

I chose to use a muted color palette for the beautiful flowers and leaves, with a pop of brighter color for the berries.  The stamped image was colored with Copic markers and I really focused on leaving a good highlight area. I love these colors together!

The coloring took quite a while, but once complete, the card came together quickly.  The main panel was trimmed down and matted with a lovely panel of cardstock from Hero Arts that seemed to compliment the leaves.  The matted panel was added to the card base with foam tape, then the sentiment strip trimmed down and adhered to the card front with foam tape as well.  Lastly, I painted the flowers and leaves with a shimmer pen and added a few aqua crystals for just a touch of bling.

Snowflake Christmas for The Paper Players

Hello friends and welcome back!  It's time for a new challenge at The Paper Players!  This week is a sketch challenge brought to us by the amazing LeAnne!

I'll also be joining the current Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge where the theme is, appropriately, Christmas.

Well, I have to admit LeAnne's sketch was a bit of a head scratcher for a while because I had to USE MATH!! But eventually I figured it out, creating three columns 1.25" wide on a 5" x 7" size card it worked out fine.  Not to say that all the little pieces are aligned absolutely perfectly but my T-ruler helped immensely. The bottom line is, I had a great deal of satisfaction when the card was complete because it was a literal challenge

For starters I cut a lovely light blue mirror card stock into the various rectangle sizes and then the patterned paper a quarter inch smaller on both sides, so it was nicely matted.  I did not want to use liquid adhesive as I always end up smearing it on mirror card stock, so I used dotted tape runner to mat the panels then popped them up on foam tape.

Next the sentiment shadow was die cut from the same mirror card stock and the sentiment twice from white card stock and once from white glitter paper.  To adhere the sentiment to the mirror card shadow, I used double sided tape for the two white die cuts, layered them together then adhered the white glitter layer on top. Then I removed the release paper for the bottom layer and easily added it to the mirror card shadow. The last step was to die cut the glitter snowflakes and add them to the card front.

Dress the Turkey for The Paper Players

 Hello friends and welcome back!  It's time for a new challenge at The Paper Players.  This week the lovely Laurie has chosen the fun theme of "Turkey Time".

I'm also joining the current Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge where the current theme is Anything Goes.

For my card I decided to use one of the silly turkeys from the Full of Thanks stamp set from Art Impressions to make a fun and easy card.

This dapper fellow is quite fun to color.  I based the color choices on the pretty plaid paper in the background, similar to Shaded Spruce and Crushed Curry.  Keeping it simple, I added just a bit of a shadow behind him then die cut the panel with an oval die, matting it on a slightly larger oval of Pumpkin Pie.

Next, the sentiment (which always makes me giggle!) was stamped on white card trimmed down and matted on a Crushed Curry square.  I created a card base from Cinnamon Cider, layered on the panel from Plaid Tidings then decided it was too plain with just the main image and the sentiment. I took a leaf stamp from the same set and stamped it on a strip of Crushed Curry, adhered that across the card, then popped up the oval and the sentiment with fun foam to finish things off.

Sweater Weather for The Paper Players

Hello friends!  It's time for a new challenge at The Paper Players!  This week the amazing Claire is hosting Fall Critters for our monthly theme challenge.

I'm also joining the current Anything Goes challenge at Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge.

I chose to use one of my favorite stamp sets that fits the PP theme exactly, with the cute critters from Sweater Weather. Hanging around with their coffee mugs and fun sweaters just cracks me up! 

The critters were stamped on Neenah Solar White and colored with Copic markers, then die cut with the coordinating dies.  The sentiment from another stamp set was stamped on Ivory with Rusty Hinge Distress Oxide Ink, then trimmed down.  Next, a number of Distress Oxide inks were blended in a gradiant on a panel of Bristol paper, then splattered with water and Rusty Hinge and set aside to dry.

The Ivory card base was layered with a trimmed down sheet of Harvest Festival patterned paper.  The frame was die cut three times, the top layer in the yummy Cinnamon Cider card stock, adhered together then glued to the dry and trimmed down blended panel, then added to the card base.  The sentiment and critters were popped up with foam tape and I thought I was finished.  But I thought it still needed a little somethin' somethin' more, so I used three long retired SU wood elements to add that finishing touch.
