Happy Monday evening! Tonight I'm back with my sample for this week's Color Challenge at Splitcoaststampers. This was to be my last post as guest designer for the Color Challenge Design Team but I've been asked to stay on until the end of June. Of course I said yes!
This week Vicki has chosen the wonderful color combination of Island Indigo, Garden Green, andSo Saffron. (ETA: I goofed up and did not check the colors closely and used So Saffron, but Vicki actually chose Daffodil Delight. So those of you that might join in, be aware of the correct color!!) "Dessert" is to include leaves in your project. I really focused on that aspect for my first attempts, trying to blend colors with reinkers and water to cut out for the leaves, but it just turned out to be a mess and not at all what I envisioned. Given that I had a pretty short time frame in which to complete it, I decided to ditch everything and go back to a more clean and simple approach. I saw this week's challenge at CAS(E) this Sketch and decided to use that for my card layout.
I ended up stamping the leaves on So Saffron and Garden Green card stock, then cutting them out with the matching framelits. I used a sponge dauber to add a bit of ink around the edges for more depth of color. When I used So Saffron ink on the same color card stock was just too light, so I ended up using Crushed Curry ink. With the life-like detail of the leaves, it seemed natural to use the Hardwood background stamp for the Island Indigo panel.
Because all the stamped images are in the three distinct challenge colors, I chose to have the card base, sentiment and embellishments be white, with the exception of the Linen Thread. I'm loving the White Enamel Dots combined with the pearls - a bit of a change up from just one or the other.
