Yellow Tabby

Hi there and welcome back!  I'm sharing a card made for this week's Color Challenge at Splitcoaststampers (yup, I'm a little late for my DT duties as I was not home when it went live).  Barbara is hosting this week and she has chosen So Saffron, Blackberry Bliss and Bermuda Bay, with a dessert option to use ribbon.  In addition to the SCS Color Challenge, I'm joining the SCS Teapot Challenge where we are to incorporate 4 things on our card by using the words Happy New Year for design inspiration, which I met with P=pussy cat, Y=yellow, N=Nuvo drops, E=embossing and R=round.

Finally, I've used the sketch challenge from Fab Friday for my card layout, although I changed the orientation from portrait to landscape.

For my card I went flipping through stamp sets that I hadn't used in a number of months and landed on the Smiling stamp set from Waffle Flower, which has two sweet, whimsical cat images.  I chose the one that worked best with both the sketch and the color challenge.

After stamping on white card stock with Copic friendly ink, I colored the scene with markers in colors similar to those for the challenge.  I actually started with the background, using a light warm gray for the "ground" and fading into the lightest blue green for the sky.  After coloring the kitty in yellows and adding stripes, I used blue greens for most of the flower leaves and the bow around kitty's neck.  I used colors similar to Mossy Meadow (a Stampin' Up defined neutral) on a couple of leaves and used the lightest of those to tone down the brightness of the other leaves.  After coloring the flowers, I used an aqua shimmer pen to add sparkle to the petals and yellow Nuvo drops were added to the stamen.

I don't use ribbon much anymore but have held onto some in my favorite colors, so I was able to create the horizontal bit from the sketch after adhering some Blackberry Bliss satin ribbon to a slightly smaller strip of card stock to add stability then gluing to the die cut focal point.  An embossed panel of Fog card stock was added to the card base, then circle popped up with some foam tape.  This card will be part of a set I will be giving to a friend for her birthday, so I deliberately left off a sentiment and kept it mail friendly with no additional embellishments.

Thanks so much for visiting, it's always so appreciated!  I've added links to all the challenges above, so I encourage you to go check them out!

Stef
