Cupcake Birthday - Surprise Party Guest for Seize the Birthday #327

Hello friends!  I'm thrilled to say that I'm the Surprise Party Guest for the new challenge at Seize the Birthday.  My card was the winner of STB #325.

The "toppings" option for the next fortnight is "Sweet Treats".

There are plenty of creative options with this topping.  Here's what I ended up making.  Warning!  Pink alert!

It's oh, so pink and very glittery!  The cupcake dies, sentiment stamp and die, and the embossing folder are all products from Spellbinders Just Add Cake card kit.  I was inspired to use this layered design after seeing Billie's card on Instagram.

Three shades of pink, two of aqua/teal and a dark brown cardstock were used, along with the magenta glitter cardstock, for the background layers and the cupcake elements.  The larger flowers and a couple of the leaves are from another Spellbinders die set, but the rest of the elements are from the Light the Candles dies in the kit. I really love those candles!

The pink background panels were first cut out with rectangle dies, then embossed with the kit folder and adhered to the larger glitter cardstock layers.  Sparkly gems were added to the flower centers and then I finished things off by using an aqua glitter pen to add more sparkle to the flower petals and the candle flames.

Thanks so much for stopping by and I encourage you to take a moment to visit the challenge blog for some wonderful inspiration by the design team.

Take care!

Stef

Chompster Devours It!

Hello friends!  I have a fun card to share with you today using the new Just Add Cake card kit from Spellbinders.  I was so excited to get it because I knew all of the dies would work beautifully for many of the upcoming birthdays of friends and family members.

Of course, I had to start with the cute little monster and because he's devouring a cupcake, I'm joining the current Sweet Treats challenge at Time Out Challenges.

And because I created a birthday card, I'm sharing with Seize the Birthday's Anything Goes challenge.

This card was so fun to make!

I like the combination of orange and blue because I think it's gender neutral.  I created Chompster from two shades of orange cardstock and used the darker orange for the card base and his party hat.

The monster dies are super easy to put together and I was smiling the entire time because he's so cute!  The background arch panel was embossed with the Confetti Drop folder that comes with the kit.

The card base was created using arch dies and one of the Spellbinders Color Block Accent Arch dies.  I think that's just the coolest look and I hope in the future they come out with rectangles with the same checkerboard design.  The sentiment is from the Just Add Cake stamp and die set in the kit.

After creating the card base doing partial die cutting with the large arch die, the layers were added.  The only thing popped up with foam tape is the sentiment.  The final touches were to add the pompom on his hat and some Sparkle Texture Paste to the cupcake frosting.  I was hoping it would have a bit more opacity, but it still looks sparkly IRL.

Thanks for taking time to stop by!  Have a great weekend!

Happy Birthday, Cupcake! for The Paper Players

Hello friends, and welcome back!  It's Sunday and that means it's time for a new challenge at The Paper Players.  The lovely Laurie is hosting our monthly CAS challenge with the theme of cupcakes.  Well, actually it can be pretty much any kind of cake or even cookies, just create something fun!

I'm also joining the current challenge at Seize the Birthday where the toppings option is scraps, and the current Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge with a theme to make a card and an envelope.

I started with the Big and Bold Cupcake from Colorado Craft Company.  This stamp is exactly as described, very big, so I decided to make a slimline style card with the cupcake hanging off the right hand side.  Here's a link to another card I recently made using the full stamp on a 6x5" card.

The cupcake was stamped three times - once on white card, once on a large scrap of patterned paper and once to decorate a slimeline envelope.  The cupcake on white card was colored with Copic markers, looking like my favorite chocolate cake with chocolate butter cream frosting and that yummy looking strawberry on top.  Once that was complete, it was fussy cut, as was the cupcake wrapper on the yellow polka dot paper and adhered together.

Next a die cut panel of white card was lightly stenciled with stripes in yellow, then adhered to the card base.  The stenciling came out very, very light in my photos - IRL it is more visible.  The cupcake was then added to the card with foam tape and the overhanging portion cut off.  The sentiment was die cut first from yellow card and layered on the brown shadow but I just didn't like it, so a second sentiment was die cut from white and adhered over the yellow, which actually worked out great to give it a bit of dimension.  The last steps were to paint the cupcake, strawberry and sentiment with a shimmer pen and add three small clear dew drops.  Pretty CAS for me, not many layers. and with some white space and fairly uncluttered.

Thanks so much for visiting, I really appreciate it!  I hope you're continuing to stay safe and healthy, and have a great week ahead!

Be sure to check out the challenge linked above plus all the fabulous inspiration from the DT members linked below!
