Hello crafty friends! It's time for a new Color Challenge at Splitcoaststampers and this week I am the host! The colors I chose for this week are Powder Pink, Lemon Lime Twist and Night of Navy, and dessert is "florals". While we use Stampin' Up colors, any brand inks are fine to use as long as they are closed to the challenge colors.
I ended up making two cards for this challenge. For the first card I stamped various images from the Kind Flowers stamp set on watercolor paper, then used Distress Inks similar to the challenge colors for water coloring. Because most of the images are small and fanciful rather than realistic looking, I didn't try to do any real shading, instead tried to get some contrast with darker and lighter colors. After the panel dried, it was die cut with a stitched rectangle die, then a white gel pen was used to color the trio of white dots and added strip on one of the flowers. The panel was added to a Powder Pink card base and the sentiment oval popped up on foam tape.
For my second card, I started with a watercolor panel, stamped various Rose Bamboo flower and leaf images, and a sweet little butterfly, that were then watercolored, this time with Distress Oxide Inks. Since I don't have the matching die set, I fussy cut them all after drying. For the background I used the Watercolor Stripes stencil, ironically water coloring with Chipped Sapphire Distress Ink rather than ink blending.
The dried panel was adhered to a white card base, then the flowers added with both glue dots and some foam tape. The sentiment was die cut three times, then layered and adhered. Clear Wink of Stella was added to the flowers and butterfly before the white Nuvo drops were added to the flower centers and a few Navy drops added around the panel.
