An Inside Hug and Sweet Hello

Happy New Year everyone!  It's time for another color challenge at Splitcoaststampers and tonight Mary is our host.  The colors she chose are Chocolate Chip, Sweet Sugarplum and Mint Macaron.  Dessert is to use something new in celebration of the new year.  Here is a link to the challenge.

At first I struggled a bit with this color combination, but then I received the new Suzy's Winter Warmup Watercolor Prints and found the perfect picture to use with these colors.  As I was working on this first card, an idea came for a second card, so I have two to share with you tonight.

I used Distress Oxide Inks (Seedless Preserves, Cracked Pistachio, Vintage Photo and Walnut Stain and Black Soot) to watercolor this cute print and create the checked table cloth.  When the panel was totally dry, a white gel pen was used to decorate the words "hot" and "hug" with dots.  Clear Wink of Stella was added to the whip cream, and the heart at the top of the panel and the cocoa cup were covered with Glossy Accents.  I didn't do a perfect job around the rim of the cup but IRL it's not really as noticeable and it's very shiny.  When the glossy accents dried the panel was popped up on a Chocolate Chip panel then adhered to the Sweet Sugarplum card base.

For my next card I went an entirely different direction.  A garland and small flowers were die cut from watercolor paper, then loosely water colored with the same DOX inks as listed above (without the black).  Next a panel of Ivory card stock was die cut with a Wonky Rectangle die, splattered with Walnut and Pistachio inks then the garland and flowers adhered to the upper left corner.  The sentiment was die cut four times, layered on top of each other for nice depth then adhered to the panel.

The flowers and sentiment were covered with Clear Wink of Stella and Ivory Seashell Nuvo drops added around the sentiment and in the flower centers.  The panel was then adhered to a Chocolate Chip card base.  Rather than trim off the leaves that extended over the card edge, I made an envelope slightly bigger than A2 size retired Sweet Sugarplum envelope paper.

Thanks so much for visiting, it's always so appreciated.  I've added a link to the challenge above, so be sure to head over there and enjoy all the beautiful inspiration, or even better, join us this week!
