Hi there! Hope you're having a good day! I took a vacation day today and got to do a couple things I really enjoy - going for a long walk around the nearby Wildlife Reserve with my husband, and then spending some time in my craft room! The resulting card from time spent in the craft room was made for two challenges using the fun sketch at Mojo Monday and luscious colors at Color Throwdown.
We're coming up to the heavy family birthday season (13 birthdays between mid June and mid August) and I especially need masculine birthday cards. I felt the sketch and colors offered the perfect opportunity to get one made.
Starting with the Smoky Slate base, I used stamps from Timeless Textures to add a bit of collage design, then added circles cut from Corrugated Kraft card stock. Next I found a perfect square of Textured Pacific Point card stock in my scraps that seemed to match up with the bright dark blue of the color challenge. Once that was layered on the card I added a horizontal piece of embossed smoky slate and the Linen Thread
For the main image, the birds were stamped in Archival Basic Gray so I could water color around them. Starting with the "sand", I used my Aqua Painter to lay down some water, then dipped the painter into some Crumb Cake ink and colored the sand, making sure to leave the birds wading in the water. Same step with Pacific Point ink, moving it in and around the birds. Finally, true to the coast off Oregon, I added Smoky Slate to create a bit of a foggy, cloudy sky. After the initial water coloring, I went back over certain areas to create variations in the color, and after everything dried, used a White Signo Uniball pen to create the look of the sea foam and tops of waves. The final step was to mount it on a Kraft panel and pop it up on the card with Dimensionals.

Until next time...
