Circle of Spring

Good evening, and welcome back!  It's time to post my card for this week's Color Challenge at Splitcoaststampers.  This week Karen chose the colors of Blackberry Bliss, Blushing Bride and Mint Macaron, and "dessert" is to use a die cut. Initially I thought this would be an easy combination but I have to admit that as I started to make my sample card, I struggled and ditched my first effort.  But then I decided to use the this week's sketch challenge at Pal's Paper Arts and was also inspired by this week's Clean and Simple Spring theme at The Paper Players, and things finally fell together.

The wreath from Circle of Spring was stamped in Archival Basic Black, colored with a Blender Pen and reinkers in the Color Challenge colors then die cut with the matching Wondrous Wreath framelit.  The sentiment from the same stamp set, perfect for the Paper Players challenge, was stamped in Blackberry Bliss and popped out with a 1 1/4" Scallop Circle punch.

A piece of Birthday Bouquet designer series paper was adhered to the top part of the Whisper White card base.  I knew I wanted to use a Tea Lace Doily as the lower half circle under the horizontal panel but by itself, it got lost against the white card stock base, so I die cut a circle of Mint Macaron card stock to place under it.

The horizontal piece of Blackberry Bliss was embossed with the Polka Dots TIEF then adhered to the card with Dimensionals.  Because of the large size of the wreath, twine was used across the panel rather than a banner under the circle.  The Vellum polka dot embossed butterflies were left over unused from another project and worked perfectly to carry the theme of spring, adhered to a same size butterfly punched from Blushing Bride card stock.  Pearls were the finishing touch.

Blushing Birthday Bloom

Yes I know, a second post!  Well, I made this card last weekend and really liked it but didn't have time to post, so I decided not to put it off any longer.  It's another card with the beautiful Birthday Blooms large flower image.  Sigh...I cannot seem to get enough of water coloring this gorgeous image.

The flower image was stamped on Watercolor paper with Archival Basic Black ink, then colored using an Aqua Painter with Blushing Bride, Watermelon Wonder, Old Olive and Mossy Meadow ink.  The stamens were colored with a So Saffron marker.  After drying, it was fussy cut with my Paper Snips, then Clear Wink of Stella was brushed onto the flower petals.

The Blushing Bride base was covered with a slightly smaller piece of Birthday Bouquet designer series paper.  Next a banner of Blushing Bride Glimmer paper and a horizontal strip of Delicate Details Lace Tape were added.  A couple pieces that had been languishing unused finally found a home, including the Textured Old Olive piece of card stock punched with the Curly Label punch and the piece of Blushing Bride scallop circle under the flower that had been die cut with the Perfect Pennant Big Z die and sprayed with Vanilla Shimmer Smooch.

Distress Birthday

Hi there!  This week Mojo Monday had another fabulous sketch and I decided to give it a distress look, which worked well for the masculine birthday card that I needed.

I had a great piece of designer series paper from the retired This & That Epic Day primarily in Pool Party and Crumb Cake, so I decided to start with a Crumb Cake base, then layered the dsp on a separate panel of Crumb Cake card stock just slightly smaller than the base.  Next, I cut a piece of Kraft Corrugated card stock for the small vertical panel layered on the main panel.

I then took a piece of Pool Party Core'dination card stock, ran it through the Big Shot with the Boho Chic Textured Impression Embossing Folder, then distressed it with a Stampin' Sanding Block.  Before being adhered together, all layers were distressed with a Cutter Kit then lightly sponged with Crumb Cake Ink.  Some Hemp cord was wrapped around the horizontal piece and brads from Vintage Trinkets added to the upper left corner of the panel.

The sentiment, from the Celebrate Today stamp set, was stamped on Very Vanilla card stock, cut with a Starburst framelit and layered on a slightly larger Crumb Cake circle.

Hi there!  Tonight it is again time for my post with this week's Color Challenge at Splitcoaststampers.  This week Vicki has chosen the lovely combination of Crisp Cantaloupe, Crumb Cake and Sahara Sand.  "Dessert" this week is any kind of dots. Well, I love polka dots, so no problem including dessert!

I am also entering my card in this week's challenge at Global Design Project, where this week's theme is to say "Thank You".

I started with a panel of Whisper White card stock embossed with the Large Polka Dot embossing folder and bordered with a Crumb Cake patterned dsp from Love Blossoms.  Both were adhered to a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" panel of Crumb Cake and popped on a base of the same after adding some Crumb Cake Thick Baker's Twine.

Next I added the sentiment from Petite Pairs and my favorite flower from the Flower Patch stamp set, with leaves stamped in Sahara Sand on the same color card stock.  Both the leaves and the bottom layer of the flower were cut with the matching framelits. The top two layers of of the flower were fussy cut with my Paper Snips.

This was a fairly quick and easy card to make, using last week's sketch from Freshly Made Sketches.  The challenge is closed but here's a link to the blog FMS 227.

Vivid Thoughts

Hi there and welcome back!  I've been pretty quiet on my blog lately as I have not had much time to spend in my craft room lately but I made up for it this weekend by making 3 cards, one of which I am sharing in this post.  The color challenge at The Paper Players this week caught my eye and I decided to play along.

I pulled out a couple of long neglected Blendability Markers sets in Calypso Coral and Bermuda Bay that worked great to color the Vivid Vases stamped image.  The stamp actually has 5 vases, but I wanted to use just the middle images, so I covered each one with a piece of tape, inked up the stamp with the ink pad, then removed the tape before stamping.

The vases were stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black then colored with the markers.  I used a Blender Pen and a tiny bit of Smoky Slate to create shadows at the base of each vase.  Next, a panel of Bermuda Bay was cut with a Squares Collection framelit to create a frame for the vases and space to add the sentiment and Baker's Twine.  A few sequins were added and I was done!

Two for Color Challenge 573

Welcome back!  It's time again for the weekly Color Challange at Splitcoaststampers, where Mary has created a fun Bingo color chart.  Pick any horizontal, vertical or diagonal line, or chose the four corners.  "Dessert" is anything you chose.  I chose the diagonal of Pear Pizzazz, Whisper White, Bermuda Bay and Soft Sky.  {Edited to Add:  I goofed and added Pool Party dsp to the first card rather than Soft Sky}.

This week I ended up making two cards, one of which uses the wonderful sketch at Pals Paper Arts, and no dessert.

My first card, using the sketch challenge, was one of those where I had a "light bulb" moment.  I knew I wanted to use the Field Flowers stamp set, so I didn't think the sketch with the square would work.  Then the idea of using a frame to represent the square became the solution.

I had to take a bit of artistic license with the sketch, flipping the circle and the horizontal bar to fit the stamp.  Since the flowers are a 2 step stamping process, a Stampamajig was used to align them properly.  The frame was created with two layered sizes of Squares Collection framelits.  After the flowers were fussy cut and popped up on Dimensionals, I decided to use Clear Wink of Stella to add the lovely sparkle, which I hope can be seen better in the photo below.

My second card uses the Banner Blast stamp set to create a festive card with a banner draped across one corner.  It could really be used for a variety of celebrations with the sentiment from Circle of Spring.  For this card, "dessert" is the color gold.

Starting with a Bermuda base, the next layer of Whisper White embossed with the Boho Chic Textured Impression Embossing Folder.  The tiny banners were stamped in the challenge colors then cut out with the Banner punch.  The banners were attached to a length of Gold Baker's Twine with bows of Bermuda Bay twine added to each end.  The sentiment, stamped in Bermuda Bay on Whisper White, was punched out with the 7/8" Scallop Circle punch and layered on a 1 1/4" Scallop Circle of Soft Sky.  Both were then layered onto a Gold Metallic Foil Doily.  Finally sequins were added.

No Limits Birthday

Hello again!  Tonight I'm sharing my weekly sample for this week's Color Challenge at Splitcoaststampers.  This week Maura has chosen the colors Real Red, Wild Wasabi, Marina Mist and Pacific Point, with "dessert" of floss, twine or ribbon. I've used the great sketch from Just Add Ink as inspiration for my card design.

The image that came to mind was forest and sky, but how to use the red?  Aha!  I pulled out the airplane from Sky is the Limit and decided to have a red plane through the sky over a forest.

I started with a panel of Whisper White card and a scrap punched out with the 1 5/8" Scallop Circle punch, then lightly sponged Pacific Point across the sky, creating fluffy clouds.  I then stamped the trees from Wonderland across the bottom in Wild Wasabi.  The plane was stamped in Archival Basic Gray, colored with a Blender Pen in Real Red ink and cut out with my Paper Snips.  The "propeller" was punched from Vellum Card Stock with a 3/4" circle punch and attached to the plane with a silver brad.

The sentiment is also from the Sky is the Limit stamp set, and was cut and layered with two sizes of Tags and Labels framelits.  I even added "dessert", with the Pacific Point Stitched Grosgrain Ribbon and Whisper White Baker's Twine.

Lakeside Birthday

Hello and welcome back!  Tonight I've got a card to share that I made for the birthday of one of my husband's brothers. This week's sketch challenge at Paper Players provided the perfect inspiration.

The Paper Players

My BIL is an outdoorsy kind of guy, he likes to golf, go camping, kayak, etc.  Well, you get the picture.  I had stashed away some Pebbles Lakeside designer series paper and chip board pieces that I won years ago from Moxie Fab world and decided it would be perfect to use for his birthday card.

Well, in addition to the fab blue and green colors, I love the hounds tooth and plaid patterns of this paper for a masculine card.  The dsp was layered on a piece of Garden Green card stock to give it enough stability to pop up on Dimensionals on the Garden Green card base after wrapping it with a piece Mossy Meadow twine (from a prior year Sale-a-Bration).

The raccoon is from a 1994 Stampin' Up! stamp set (the name of which I do not know) that I bought on Ebay several years ago, containing 20 stamps of various critters.  He was matched up with a pine cone chip board piece from the Lakeside collection, and the sentiment from Teeny Tiny Wishes.

Now that I've gotten so used to the trend of adding sequins or something scattered around a card, I felt like there was something missing on this one until I added the perfect finishing touch to a guy card, Candy Dots!  ; - )

I went digging through my hoard stash of retired designer series paper to find various patterns in the challenge colors to use for the base and the banners.  The horizontal piece of Thick Whisper White (also used for the base) was cut with the Eyelet Border punch, stamped with the sentiment and dots and wrapped with the GORGEOUS Pool Party Glitter Ribbon now available in the current Occasions catalogue.

I used a Stampamajig to position the sentiment so I would have plenty of room for the ribbon.  After everything was adhered to the base, a flower punch from the Itty Bitty Accent Punch Pack was used to punch out three Wisteria Wonder flowers and added them to the panel, along with rhinestone centers.

Giggle Grunge

Hi there and welcome back!  I have my card for this week's Color Challenge at Splitcoaststampers.  This week the colors are Hello Honey, Cherry Cobbler and Mossy Meadow.  Dessert was to add some glitter, which I accomplished with a little bit of Wink of Stella.

These colors were a little challenging for me for some reason.  I mean, it seems perfect for flowers but I wanted to do something different.  So I pulled out a stamped image from Giggle Greetings that I had in my stash from when I borrowed the stamp set from my upline (thanks Susan!).

The sentiments in this stamp set make me smile, and I find this one particularly true, especially after my week at work last week LOL!  The image was stamped in Jet Black Stazon on water color paper then colored with an Aqua Painter and reinkers.  I like how the bowl turned out, but I was so focused on keeping the Cherry Cobbler ink from migrating outside the cherry image, that I let the ink dry too much and wasn't able to move it around to get better highlights.  After everything dried, I added Clear Wink of Stella to the cherries.

I found some retired Washi tape that had been available during the 2014 Holiday catalogue and added it to the top, bottom and interior of the Thick Whisper White card base.  The tag was created with a 2" wide strip of Hello Honey punched on one end with the Ornate Tag Topper punch, then scored above and below the added main image.  Before adhering the tag to the card, I added some splatters using stamps from Gorgeous Grunge and Awesomely Artistic.   I think I got a bit carried away, but it was fun.

Birthday Love Blossoms

Happy Saturday!  Today I had a chance to visit my craft room and finish up a card made for this week's Mojo Monday challenge.

I decided to use the lovely Birthday Blossoms stamp set, and started by stamping the group of small flowers, the larger flower and leaves with Archival Basic Gray ink on Whisper White paper.  Using a Blender pen I colored them using Blushing Bride, Rose Red and Pear Pizzazz reinkers. The trick that works for me to avoid pilling the paper when using a Blender pen, especially when coloring larger areas, is to use a very light touch when applying the ink, and try not to repeatedly go over a section.

I punched out both the flower and group of flowers and hand cut the leaves.  The Rose Red card stock base was covered with a slightly smaller piece of Whisper White card stock that was run through the Big Shot with an embossing folder.  I then took a panel of Smokey Slate, edged it with a border punch, then adhered a piece of Love Blossoms designer series paper with just the prettiest pattern, don't you think?

When starting to add the final layers, the large circle of flowers looked a little plain by itself.  I tried a paper doily but it was too big, then I remembered I had some Metallic Foil Doilies, pulled out a large silver one and it worked beautifully.  Then the sentiment, single flower and leaves were popped up on a Rose Red circle for contrast to the colors underneath.  The final touches were a scattering of sequins and pearls (heaven forbid I don't add sequins LOL!!).

Welcome back!  It's Monday evening and time to share my sample card for this week's Color Challenge at Splitcoaststampers.  This week Karen has inspired us with the lovely combination of Watermelon Wonder, Old Olive and Lost Lagoon.  The "dessert" option is to use an oval, but I forgot until my card was complete.  I also used the wonderful sketch from this week's sketch challenge at Pals Paper Arts.

With this week's colors, I thought they would work well with the retired Pleasant Poppies stamp.  It was stamped in Archival Basic Black on watercolor paper, then the flowers were water colored with an Aqua Painter using Watermelon Wonder and Old Olive reinkers.  Lost Lagoon was used for the background.

I struggled a bit with the angled cut and ended up using gold as my "neutral", including the ribbon on both sides of the cut.  Other bits of gold included metallic thread and sequins, plus the addition of Gold Wink of Stella on the wood sentiment and on the flower stamen.

Sublime Love

A quick post tonight with a card made for this week's challenge at Freshly Made Sketches.  I used it to make a very CAS Valentine.

I've had the You're Sublime stamp set for a while and had not yet inked it up.  The frog image is so sweet I thought it would be perfect for a whimsical Valentine.  Using retired Old Olive Blendability Markers, I colored him after stamping on Thick Whisper White with Memento Tuxedo Black ink.

Floral Glow

It's Monday evening and time to share my sample for this week's Color Challenge at Splitcoaststampers.  Vicki has chosen a lovely combination of So Saffron, Soft Sky and Basic Gray.  "Dessert" is to use scallops.

I started with a piece of water color paper, stamping the flower image in Versamark ink, then heat embossing it with Clear Stampin' Emboss Powder.  I've seen this done very nicely with other floral images so I thought I would give it a try.  Using an Aqua Painter to first wet the paper, I applied So Saffron on and around the flower, moving the ink until I had to coverage I wanted, but not trying for perfection.  I ended up with a bit of a light yellow "glow" if you will around the flower. Then the background was covered with Soft Sky, and the stem a light bit of Basic Gray.  After the water color paper dried, I trimmed it down to fit on the card.

The base is Thick Whisper White that was covered by a 5" x 5" square of Textured So Saffron.  I found a piece of Basic Gray designer series paper in the Moonlight paper stack, which was layered under the water colored piece.  Next I found a strip of polka dot Basic Gray dsp, that I cut along one side with a Scallop Border punch.

I fiddled around with a variety of sentiments and shapes, but finally settled on a simple circle with a simple sentiment, backed with a little bit of Soft Sky ribbon.

Birthday Soiree 2.0

Hi there and welcome back!  I thought I would share the rest of the cards I made as a birthday present for my friend.  You can see the first one here (Birthday Soiree).  The primary theme for all the cards is the use of the retired Elegant Soiree designer series paper, of which I still have a healthy supply that I am trying to use up.

         
This first card uses one of the floral images from the beautiful Birthday Blooms.  It was colored with reinkers and a blender pen, then die cut with a Labels Collection framelit.  The sentiment, stamped in Baja Breeze was popped out with a Large Oval punch.

The star of this next card is the fun sentiment from Botanicals For You, available free during Sale-A-Bration with a $50 or more purchase.  After stamping I used Gold Wink of Stella to add some gold dots in the upper left corner.  I really like how the Gold Baker's Twine and sequins look against the Soft Suede design.

This third card has a softer look to it with the butterfly and doily.  The sentiment was die cut with one of the tags from the Tags and Labels Framelits that I recently decided to order.  Love these cute shapes!

And finally a decidedly more masculine card.  This time the sentiment and the piece it was layered on were die cut with two of the labels from the Tags & Labels Framelits, while the flags were die cut with one of the dies included with the Gift Card Envelope framelit.
