Happy Birthday, Deer!

Hello, and welcome back!  I'm taking time for a last minute post so I can beat the deadline at The Paper Players, where Jaydee has provided us with a fun Tic Tac Toe challenge.  My card uses the three choices across the top - tree, birthday and fall.

PP 368

I decided to use the Tim Holtz Stamptember 2017 Collection stamp set for my card (while that stamp set is no longer available at Simon Says Stamp, many of the stamps included in the set are available in other TH stamp sets).  While designed as a Christmas stamp set, many of the images lend themselves to various types of cards, so I used three of them to create a birthday card.

I started with a panel of watercolor paper and using Distress Inks, blended first Tumbled Glass down towards the middle of the panel, then added the darker Salty Ocean around the top and sides.  Next Fossilized Amber was added to the bottom much like the light blue above, then Rusty Hinge was added around the bottom and side.  When that was complete, I added water drops for the speckled look and dried the panel.  Using a Misti so I could move the paper around I stamped two tree images multiple times, first in Ground Espresso in the foreground, then Hickory Smoke in the background.  Especially for the background trees, I did stamp first on a scrap paper that I slipped into the Misti so that the ink was more muted.

The last thing I stamped was the deer.  Because I used a Misti I was able to stamp the image multiple times to get a good impression on the textured watercolor paper.  That also applied to the sentiment where I stamped it on a scrap piece of paper to help me get it straight before adding to the inked panel, and also stamped it 3 times to get a clear impression.  Once those steps were complete, the panel was then cut with a Stitched Rectangle die, sponged a bit around the edges with Walnut Stain ink, adhered to a slightly larger panel of Audrey Blue card stock and wrapped with Linen Thread.  I intend to use this card for a male relative's upcoming birthday, so I opted not to add any other embellishments, instead just mounted the finished piece onto a Dark Chocolate card base.

Thanks for taking time to visit, it's always so appreciated!  I've added a link to the challenge above so be sure to head over there and enjoy all the beautiful inspiration!

Stef
